One of the best ways to start foraging is to go with someone who already knows how! This could be a family member, a friend, or someone from your community.
However, many of us don’t know anyone who forages, so these guided tours are a good option to safely get started! Click on the picture to go to the tour site.
Morel Hunting Field Trip by Swallowtail Culinary Adventures
A guided field trip that shows you where and how to forage Burn Morel Mushrooms, and how to cook them afterwards. You will be picking mushrooms on this tour.
Burn Morels grow the years after a forest fire has gone through the land. It is helpful to go on this field trip when hunting for these mushrooms since there are several hazards associated with foraging on a burn site.
Chef and forager Robin Kort leads this trip. She has years of experience foraging and cooking wild mushrooms. The trip’s location depends on the available areas, but they are usually around 2-2.5 hours away from Vancouver, B.C.
Wild Mushroom Tours by Elements Adventures
A guided tour that shows you how to find and ID several mushrooms. It is tailored for beginners and starts with the basics of identification. This is an identification course, you will not be picking mushrooms.
There are several tours available with half day or full day options. The tours take place in the Okanagan Region in B.C., venturing out near Lumby, Salmon Arm, and other areas.
The tour is led by Elements Adventures’ wilderness guides, who have experience venturing in the forest and IDing these mushrooms.
